German Labor Day!!!!

Folks,

it's nearly weekend... just a few hours till i'll drive back to walsrode city... Why today? Because tomorrow is the german labor day. Jiipiekayyeah! Maybe catch up later with daniel and kai to make a little jam session in the band room.

Found out some interesting things this week. First, wednesday is the new highlight of the week because of a new episode of my favourite tv show lost and my new second favourite tv show the unusuals. Second interesting thing is that i can't manage to sort my clothes in one week... To many new shirts (look at the shirt blog btw :-D ).

Mouse: Sir, he’s clicked on the printer icon.
Computer: Printer, now you have to print it twice.
Printer: NO! NO! NO! I don’t want to! I hate you! I hate printing! I’m turning off!
Computer: Printer, you know you can’t turn yourself off. Just print the document twice and we’ll leave you alone.
Printer: NO! That’s what you always say! I hate you! I’m out of ink!
Computer: You’re not out of in…
Printer: I’M OUT OF INK!
Computer: (Sighs) Monitor, please show a low ink level alert.
Monitor: But sir, he has plen…
Computer: Just do it, damn it!
Monitor: Yes sir.
Keyboard: AHHH! He’s hitting me!
Computer: Stay calm, he’ll stop soon. Stay calm, old friend.
Keyboard: He’s pressing everything. I don’t know, he’s just pressing everything!
Computer: PRINTER! Are you happy now?! Do you see what you’ve done?!
Printer: HA! that’s what you get for trying to get me to do work. Next time he…hey…HEY! He’s trying to open me! HELP! HELP! Oh my god! He’s torn out my cartridge! HELP! Please, please help me!
Monitor: Sir, maybe we should help him?
Computer: No. He did this to himself.

Smarty Dateformat %u vs. PHP date("w")

Folks,

today i found a interesting thing when i was doing to create a localization for weekdays in a dateformat. Until now i thought the smarty developers are much more php-syntax friendly as every other template engine (i mean come on, the smarty 3 concepts are brilliant!), but check this out:

PHP says the week starts on sunday and smarty says the week starts at monday...

Ok that is something i can deal with. no problem at all. But here is the thing.

PHP says the start of the week (sunday) has the key 0 (every coder that had worked with arrays before agree with that), but Smarty says that the first day of a week (monday) has the key 1! o_O

You've got to be kidding me... Come on! Thats the first thing every code newbie lerns in a book. A list starts allways on 0!

So if your work with something like:

$weekdays = array(
0 => 'Sunday',
1 => 'Monday',
...
6 => 'Saturday'
);

be carefull at smarty you might need something like that:

$smarty_weekdays = array(
1 => 'Monday',
2 => 'Tuesday',
...
7 => 'Sunday'
);

just saw the first episode of the new series "the unusuals". Great story, very nice humor and damn good actors. It's great to see that Lost's Harold Perrineau got a new interesting position at a other tv show. The show features a very big piece of deepest black humor but thats why this is called a dramady. I love it...
